Here’s a little light-hearted comic relief from the 70′s.

More seriously, it shows you why you need a good set of garden shed plans ;-)

So, you want to know how to build a shed, do you?

A garden shed is a wonderful thing!  You can keep your tools and gardening equipment safe and secure.  It makes a great shelter when it starts to rain and, last but not least, it makes a great escape when you need to avoid washing the dishes!

Now, get the building right and everybody is happy; get it wrong and you could become the laughing stock of the neighbors.

Don’t panic…

First off, don’t be afraid to enlist the help of friends, family and/or neighbors if your woodworking skills leave something to be desired.  There is no shame in using somebody else’s experience.  You want a great looking shed, don’t you?  This is not the time to get all macho!

A set of good garden shed plans will also be necessary and will take all the guesswork out of the project.

Tools, tools, tools… you need them – period!  Here’s a list:

1.  A compound miter saw (electric) for cutting thick wood with precision (angles need to be accurate).

2.  To cut 10 feet long plywood you will need a circular saw (or a table saw).

3.  A nail gun will make your task considerably easier and will prevent bent nails.  Be aware that your nail gun may require an air compressor.

4.  An electric drill is also needed and cordless ones are fine, but they have less power than corded ones.

5.  A staple gun might be needed if you have to secure a weather resistant finish to your roof.

6.  A measuring tape that is at least 8 feet long.

7.  If your plans involve wood joints (as opposed to metal brackets), then you will need an electric router.

8.  Paint, varnish, brushes, cleaning stuff, etc.

The above list should get you going, although you might need a few additional items depending on your choice of shed plans.

So, now you know how to build a shed… well, not quite.

Remember… you also need a good set of clear garden shed plans.

Good luck!
