Wooden Garden ShedNo doubt (if you’ve read through all the articles on this site) you’ve realized that we kind of like wooden garden sheds!

Yes, there are plenty of other materials available (aluminium, plastic, etc) and they all have their place depending on what you want your shed to be for.  Read through the other pages on this site to find out the pros and cons of these different materials.

However, wood can mean different things: pine and T1-11 siding, for example.

Probably the best choice for the garden, though, is cedar as it is hard-wearing, durable and lightweight.  You’ll find a great deal of outdoor furniture made out of cedar as its fibers are very straight which makes the wood very durable.

Cedar also contains a natural oil which insects hate!  This is why clothes chest have traditionally been made out of cedar as it also prevents fungus as well as insect attack.  You’ll also find it in saunas for the same reason.

Another reason to use cedar in your wooden garden shed is simply that it smells good!  It also has well-documented therapeutic properties.

Cedar looks good and has a light amber color that can also be stained or treated to protect the wood even further.

Finally, you can also pick-and-mix if you so wish: maybe you like the idea of having cedar shingles and painted T1-11 siding.  Conversely, you may prefer the look of cedar siding with asphalt shingles.  There’s plenty of choice.

So, start looking into the various wooden garden shed plans that are available online and don’t forget to consider cedar as your main building material.
